The College of Medicine of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) has experience in public health training, research, and knowledge management. It comprises a large teaching hospital, Queen Elizabeth Centre Hospital in Blantyre, as well as research sites at nearby district hospitals, and a satellite campus in the capital city in Lilongwe. It is a valuable partner in improving the connection between academia and policymaking, as it works closely with the Ministry of Health. It has a mandate to train health professionals in various health related disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and continues to be of strategic importance to the health sector in Malawi through its contribution to the improvement of access to quality healthcare within Malawi. UNIMA is participating in research on integration of care for hypertension and for diabetes type 2, their patient screening approaches and assessing population-level interventions for preventing these conditions, with the related knowledge translation being applied across these research tasks.
